Preset Programs
Somnius includes EIGHT different Sleep Programs, each following classic Circadian Sleep Cycle formats to create a repeating twelve hour Ultradian Sleep Rhythm with individual sleep cycles that run progressively shorter to aid in waking up naturally after 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Included is Program 1, Deep Sleep, which uses very low Rife frequencies designed to lead you to fall asleep and stay asleep longer by supplying natural deep sleep frequencies. Also included is Program 2, Solfeggio Sleep, a slightly higher frequency sleep program which encourages both deep sleep and dream sleep. Program 3, Dream Sleep, encourages dreaming and assists in remembering your dreams. Program 4, Deeper Sleep, features very low frequency brainwave entrainment that help users achieve more sleep time in stages 3 and 4. Program 5 Energy Sleep, to boost energy levels during sleep to awaken recharged. Program 6, Deepest Sleep, the lowest possible sleep program for those really challenging times. Controls and Indicators
Somnius features a Spectrum Light Emitting Diode (SLED) on the top of the instrument and two dome pushbutton switch on the bottom. The Spectrum LED lights difference colors to indicate the status of the instrument and which program is currently running. When power is first applied to Somnius it runs a series of self tests and when they pass the Spectrum LED transitions from Red to White in color and then flashes six times to indicate the instrument version and serial number. The SLED then flashes every fifteen seconds when the program is running to indicate whether Program 1 (Red) or Program 2 (Amber) is running. The dome pushbuttons on the bottom are used both to change programs and to enter the Critical Flicker Fusion measurement program.
Operation
Somnius is self starting and restarting and only requires being plugged into its included 5V USB power adapter to operate. As Somnius repeats its sleep cycles every twelve hours it is recommended that you plug Somnius into its power supply just before retiring to bed the first night. If the power is interrupted it is recommended that you unplug the power supply and plug it back in to restart the sleep cycle before retiring to bed the night after the power interruption. The Deep Sleep program automatically loads the first time the instrument is used and reloads unless the user has changed the program selection. This is accomplished by pressing the SELECT dome pushbutton switch on the bottom of the instrument while Somnius is running. The Spectrum LED on the top of the instrument will flash the new program color to confirm the change and then the new color every fifteen seconds to indicate the newly selected sleep program is running. Somnius always loads and runs the sleep program last selected by the user until the user changes the selection. The SETUP dome pushbutton switch on the bottom of the instrument is used to enter and operate the Critical Flicker Fusion measurement program. Somnius should be initially be used with the Program 1, Deep Sleep. If Somnius is to be used for one person it may be placed under your pillow. The 5V USB Wall Power Supply should be located at least 3 feet (one meter) from any part of your body. If Somnius is to be used for two people, then it should be placed on top of the mattress laying flat between the pillows. It is suggested that you use Program 1 for the first week before trying program 2. If you experience restless leg syndrome (RLS) it is recommended to locate Somnius under your legs during sleep, preferably as close to your legs as possible, such as under the mattress pad, instead of under the mattress itself.
Personal Wellness Number using Critical Flicker Fusion
To activate CFF the user presses and releases the SETUP dome pushbutton switch on the bottom. The Spectrum LED will flash Red six times to confirm you are entering CFF measuring. Somnius should now be held close to the user’s face with the Spectrum LED directly in front of the user’s dominant eye. The Spectrum LED will now appear to be lit Red continuously, when it is actually turning on and off at a very high frequency. When the user sees the Red Spectrum LED begin to flicker, or pulsate, the SETUP dome pushbutton switch is pressed once to stop the test. Your two digit CFF number is then displayed as a series of Spectrum LED flashes of White for the first number (the tens digit) followed by a brief pause and then Green the one’s digit number. The value for zero is represented by a Blue flash of the Spectrum LED. The user should record his or her CFF rate for comparison to previous and future measurements. Following the CFF number display Somnius will now run your CFF number for 10 minutes as a therapeutic program. When running the CFF program the Spectrum LED will flash twice in the heart-beat format every ten seconds. At the conclusion Somnius will restart the last run Sleep Program.
Customer Updates
Somnius’ sleep programs can be updated by the customer using NuTesla’s proprietary flash-drive interface. Simply press and hold the SETUP dome button while connecting Somnius to your computer’s USB port. Somnius will then enumerate as a small flash-drive and a pop-up window should appear. Open the flash-drive and open the NuTesla.htm file that appears. This will display the configured Preset Programs and provide a link to redirect you to a secure area of the NuTesla website to allow you to download trial programs which are simply dropped on to the Rhythmedics flash-drive.
